Overhead Sewer FAQs
What is an overhead sewer?
In simple terms, an overhead sewer system is a way to raise your main sewer line in order to reduce the chance of basement flooding.
How does an overhead sewer work?
All water from upper floors drain using gravity to the main sewer line. All lower level fixtures drain into a basement pump pit. A pump then ejects the water up and into the above ground overhead sewer drain line.
Do overhead sewers require maintenance?
We suggest annual maintenance of the main sewer line and pump pit, but this is not a requirement. If the main sewer line is open and the pump is in proper working order, it should prevent any basement flooding from drains.
What flooding will an overhead sewer not prevent?
Seepage water and ground water from foundation cracks and basement flooring will not be prevented by an overhead sewer system.
