Expert Sewer & Drain Rodding Services in Chicago, IL

We Can Clear Your Clogged & Slow Drains

Madden Sewer & Drain specializes in rodding and opening drain lines. The most common and effective way to do this is with electric rodding or hydro jetting.

What is sewer rodding?

Sewer rodding is highly effective for tackling issues caused by grease buildup, tree root intrusion, or accumulated debris that standard plunging or chemical cleaners cannot address.

Rodding is a plumbing technique used to clear blockages and debris from sewer lines and drains. This process involves inserting a flexible, rod-like tool into the sewer pipe and pushing it through the system to break apart clogs, remove obstructions, and restore the flow of water and waste.

It’s often used as a preventative maintenance method or a quick solution for resolving stubborn clogs that can lead to serious plumbing problems if left untreated.

Other techniques for clearing clogged drains

Hydro jetting is a great technique for cleaning sludge and grease out of drainage pipes because it employs highly pressurized water. For more information about this approach, see our hydro jetting page.

During the service appointment, the technician will identify the root cause of the issue and inform you of which options are available for your situation and give a recommendation on which type of machine is best for the job.

If needed, a camera inspection can be performed at the time of the appointment to further investigate the cause of the issue.

Sewer & Drain Rodding FAQs

Our team is very experienced in both residential and commercial projects with an attention to detail that guarantees client satisfaction.
What is Jet Rodding?

Jet rodding is a high pressure (1,500 to 4,000 PSI) jetting method that uses water to clear sewer lines.

How does jet rodding work?

A specialized nozzle at the end of the hose is designed to spray water to dislodge, loosen and remove roots, grease and other debris found in sewer lines. The high volume of water also leads to debris being flushed from the sewer line.

What are the benefits of jet rodding vs. electric rodding?

The jet rod has multi-directional cleaning capability, more power, and is able to flush and remove grease and debris from sewer lines. Electric rods and other machines can cut up tree roots and other debris but don’t necessarily remove the debris from the line.

What is electric rodding?

Electric rodding is a method used to clear sewer and drain lines from grease, roots and other debris. A flexible cable with a blade at the end is designed to cut through most obstructions found in the pipe.

When should electric rodding be used?

Rodding is needed when drains are slowly draining or completely backed up, when tree roots are growing near sewer lines and also for preventive maintenance to keep your sewer lines clear and flowing smoothly.

Which drains can be cleared by electric rodding?

Main sewer lines, sink lines, floor drains, tub/shower drains, laundry drains, downspout lines, toilet drain lines, etc. can all be cleared with an electric rod.
