New Home Sewer Inspections in Chicago, IL

We have multiple cameras of all sizes at Madden Sewer. The camera allows us to see the problem in the underground sewer pipe. A sewer camera is used to qualify for Chicago’s Private Drain Program (PDP), inspections when buying or selling a home, and to locate the sewer line and identify any obstructions.

Sewer Line Inspection for New Home Buyers

When buying a new home, the sewer line is one of the most critical yet hidden parts of the property. If it is damaged, clogged, or on the verge of failing, repairs or replacements can be expensive. Identifying these issues early allows you to negotiate repairs with the seller or prepare for maintenance costs in the future.

A new home camera inspection involves using a specialized camera to visually assess the condition of the main sewer line that connects the home to the municipal sewer system. We insert a camera into the sewer line to check for any issues such as cracks, tree root intrusions, blockages, or other structural problems.

Older homes, in particular, are prone to having sewer lines made of outdated materials which can deteriorate over time. Newer homes can also have problems caused by poor installation, shifting soil, or growing tree roots. Without a proper inspection, these issues can go unnoticed until they cause significant damage, such as sewage backups or flooding.

Investing in a sewer line inspection gives you peace of mind and confidence in your new home purchase. It ensures you’re making a fully informed decision and can save you from unexpected expenses down the road.

Schedule a professional sewer line inspection before closing on your new home—it’s a smart way to protect your property and wallet!

Water is coming up from the floor drains in my basement; what's going on?

The odds are your Main Sewer Line is backed up. The only way to fix this is to rod out the sewer line. If your basement has an overhead sewer, something is wrong with the pump.

Why does our basement flood during heavy rains?

In most situations, there are (3) reasons why you have water in your basement during heavy rain.

1. You have a total or partial blockage in your main sewer line, and the volume of water from downspouts and outside floor drains is too much for the pipe to handle. If this is the case, rodding the main sewer line could correct the problem.

2. The city sewer can not handle the volume of water. Once the water level in the city sewer system rises to the level of your basement drains, it will start to come up in your basement. A backwater valve, flood control, or overhead sewer system is needed in this case.

3. Ground water will begin to cause seepage from the floor or foundation. In most cases, a drain tile is needed to correct the problem. However, sometimes foundation cracks are the problem and need to be sealed.

What do we do if water backs up in a single drain (sink, toilet, floor drain, etc)?
Most times, if water is backing up in only one drain in the house, that specific branch line needs to be rodded. Kitchen sink lines generally run to a Main Sink Line and can be rodded from the sink or the Main Sink Line pipe in your catch basin. Bathroom sinks, showers, and tubs should connect directly to the toilet stack in the same bathroom and can be rodded from the specific drain backing up or the toilet line. If a single floor drain is backing up, the problem is generally in the drain line for the floor drain before it connects to the Main Sewer Line.
How can payment be made?
We accept cash, credit (Visa and MasterCard), debit, and checks for our service. Payment plans can be made with Shaun Madden.
How do I set up a PDP?
In order to schedule a PDP, we have to contact the City Inspector Dept. and schedule a time that we, the inspector, and the homeowner can all make it. It usually takes 24-48 hours for the city to schedule a date and time.
How are jobs priced?
All work is priced by the job, not by the hour. Each job is different, and so there is an additional price. The price will always be given before any work is done.
