Flood Control System Installations in Chicago, IL

A Flood Control System is the most common way of preventing the city sewer from backing up and flooding your basement. Call us for a free onsite estimate to best understand how the system works and where it can be installed at your property.

The picture above is a basic diagram of our Flood Control System. We install (1) or (2) backwater valves that prevent water from coming back into your basement. The valve can open to allow water to drain from your house but will close if there is any back pressure in the line. We also install a pump to enable you to use all your water and drains in the building. In the case that the valve is closed, the water spills into a pit and is pushed out past the valve by a 2″ Ejector Pump. Once the system is installed, Madden Sewer installs a basin and lid for future access. Most systems are installed outside the front yard but can also be installed inside.

How does a Flood Control System work?

Do all homes have a backwater Valve?

Not all homes need a flood control system or backwater valve. If you have an overhead sewer or a lift station, you do not need a flood control system.

What is needed after the system is installed?

We suggest annual maintenance on the flood control system. Our maintenance includes electric rodding the main sewer line, inspecting the pump and cleaning the pit, as well as greasing the backwater valve. This service extends the warranty of the flood control system for one year.

Can we still backwater valves without a pump?

Yes, but you will not be able to use water when the gates are closed or you risk flooding your basement. Also, you can not do this if any outside floor drains or downspouts tie into the sewer line behind the backwater valves.
